Examination Boards
There are three Examination Boards operating in England:
OCR (Oxford & Cambridge & Royal Society of Arts)
AQA (Assessment & Qualifications Alliance)
with an additional Board for Wales (WJEC/CBAC).
Each board sets its own subject syllabi, although within fairly strict government guidelines for content and standard.
Each school is free to choose whichever examination board and syllabus they wish. Whenever a students joins us we check to find which examination board and syllabus their school is using, and our tuition is based around this. We have and use a variety of text books to suit the student, although we have our own favourites, and we buy from the examination boards copies of their past examination papers for use in our teaching.
We use the web sites of the examination boards to monitor changes to syllabi and confirm such things as examination dates.
The boards sometimes provide useful guidance for students which you may like to explore.
The Independent Schools Examining Board is responsible for the Common Entrance examinations for independent schools. Their web site includes dates for the CE examinations as well as other helpful information.
