University Entrance
As parents ourselves, we understand how difficult are the decisions about what, where, when and how (to pay for it!).
These pages list a number of links to web sites which we and others have found helpful. In addition to links to individual universities there are a number of guides offering different views. Remember that the universities are selling themselves, so read around for other views and, best of all, visit the universities you are interested in.
In addition to Open Days, many universities welcome potential students to visit at any time. Some offer guided tours, others provide maps showing the layout of the university and suggesting a route to follow. You may not be able to get into the buildings or talk to staff, but you do get a good feel for the place (although our experience is that before lunch-time at weekends is very quiet!).
If you can, start your selection process early. Year 10 is not too soon! GCSEs have been chosen, so your interests have been identified. You may even have a good idea of what A levels you want to do, but even if you are not decided, look around at what is available.
And remember - the university needs you as much as you want them (the money thing works both ways)! If you haven’t quite made the grades they asked for, call them straight away, before clearing kicks in and your place goes to someone else.
