11+ and Common Entrance
11+
Schools in East Sussex are within a wholly comprehensive system, while some parts of Kent remain under the selective, 11+, system. As a result, children in primary schools in Kent are generally prepared to take the 11+ examination, while those in East Sussex are not.
We offer a service to parents intending to enter their children to Kent grammar schools in preparing their children for the examination. We offer a diagnostic service as well as full preparation.
The 11+ examination is taken in September of each year, so that the 11+ assessment is known before the secondary school is chosen. We recommend that preparation starts a full year before the examination, giving the necessary time to bring the child up to the required standard.
Common Entrance and Scholarship
This examination, normally taken at 11+ or 13+, is for entry into independent schools. The standard required by some schools can be very high, and we recommend that tuition starts at least one year before the examination.
At 11+ the examination normally takes place in mid-January and consists of four papers: English 1, English 2, Mathematics and Science. These are spread over two days.
The 13+ examination is held twice each year, over four days each in late January and early May. English, Maths and Science are compulsory papers, but students are generally expected to offer several additional subjects. The senior school to which admission is sought should be consulted. Scholarship examinations are taken in late February and early May.
We can provide tutorial support for Maths and Science subjects, and offer assistance in preparing students seeking Scholarship entry.
